Walnuts & Barley - Good Food Awards Finalists

Walnuts & Barley - Good Food Awards Finalists

We are thrilled to announce that Hummingbird made the Good Food Foundation's list of the 351 Finalists for the 2022 Good Food Awards in two categories, Snacks and Grains.

Our Awakened® Walnuts start with raw Organic nuts from a family farm in California, then we soak them overnight in pure water initiating germination which helps reduce enzyme inhibitors that make all nuts hard to digest. Next, we rinse with a Himalayan Pink Salt and water solution and dehydrate them at low temperatures until they reach the perfect crunchiness.

Our Tibetan Black Barley is grown on an organic farm in Idaho. This Barley, with its bran intact, retains its firm, plump texture during cooking, making it perfect in soup, stuffing and stews. It’s also great when mixed with other grains due to its contrasting chewy texture. The Dalai Lama says he eats it for breakfast everyday.

Spanning 42 states and Washington D.C., the Finalists stood out from the nearly 2,000 entries as the top scorers in 17 total categories. Our Awakened® Walnuts and our Tibetan Black Barley are officially Good Food Awards Finalists. It is our pleasure to share this news with you our loyal customers.

Across all categories, the Finalists represent the highest standards of quality, sustainability and social responsibility. In Kansas, Grains and Drinks Finalist Pinole Blue uses organic blue corn to make tortillas and a traditional beverage, while returning a portion of profits to the Rarámuri (Tarahumara) people of Northern Mexico. In Hernando, Mississippi, Mae’s Gourmet Jams has blended tradition with a commitment to sustainability, using techniques passed down through generations to turn local, organic blueberries into Blueberry Lemongrass Jam. In California, Appanage’s Ortolan Rosolio is an aperitif made from heirloom roses which would otherwise be wasted or discarded for aesthetic imperfections.

The Good Food Foundation will return to live events in 2022, beginning with the Good Food Awards Ceremony on Friday, January 14 in San Francisco, where 233 of the 351 Finalists will become the 2022 Winners. Following the ceremony, the industry-only San Francisco Good Food Mercantile will open for buyers to connect directly with good food makers from across the country – and now the world, at the first ever Good Food International Showcase. The Good Food Foundation will hit the road next spring with the Portland Mercantile on April 29 and the New York Mercantile on June 25. Tickets and registration for all events will be available in mid-November at goodfoodfdn.org.
