Grown in the Americas before Europeans arrived, Great Northern beans have a mild flavor that is ideal when paired with aromatic herbs and pungent spices.
High in protein and dietary fiber, Great Northern beans are an excellent source of the essential minerals iron, magnesium, and folate. They are low in calories and contain very few natural sugars.
Great Northern beans’ delicate, nutty flavor is delicious in soups, stews, casseroles and salads; they can also be prepared on their own as a savory side dish and are perfect as baked beans. Great Northern’s share many characteristics with other white beans, like cannellini and navy beans, and can often be used interchangeably.
To cook, soak beans overnight, rinse, add fresh water and bring to a boil, then turn down to simmer and cook until soft.
