Hummingbird Values: Outstanding Service to Customers, Vendors and Each Other

Hummingbird Values: Outstanding Service to Customers, Vendors and Each Other

We are celebrating a big achievement and can’t wait to share it with you. But first, let’s review our mission and values, because our celebration is directly related to how we live and express our values in our everyday work. We are a great group of Coworker owners who really care about our work.

Our mission is to offer Organic, high-quality, nutritious foods grown as locally and sustainably as possible. And we take great care and pride in creating long-term, mutually beneficial relationships. Like the Hummingbird, we seek to sip the nectar of the Earth without harming the flower.

Our values are Service, Integrity and Prosperity (SIP).

Our values start with Service and we strive to provide outstanding service to customers, vendors and each other. From our purchasing team all the way through, until our drivers leave your dock having delivered amazing Organic food, we are focused on providing outstanding service. We use continuous improvement methodologies to find more efficiency and better service in every department.

This brings us to our CELEBRATION! Our warehouse team takes this value of SERVICE very seriously. We track and report on Fulfillment Accuracy as a key performance indicator (KPI) weekly and monthly - working to learn and improve until we can eliminate order picking errors (picking the wrong item or not picking all the items on the order). In 2024, we set a goal of 99.8% accuracy or higher. This is a challenging goal because this is well above warehouse industry standard of around 97%. All year we have had success while averaging around 99.96%. In August, we hit 99.99% with just 1 miss pick in over 7,000 lines. We were happy! But then, as September rolled along, our Warehouse team continued to strive for perfection. As the month ended the team had recorded no errors, achieving a month of 100% accuracy. WOW!

When asked how they achieved this, Warehouse Manager, Nathan Howard, had this to say, "This is the result of a team of conscientious individuals caring about getting it right the first time, and a positive, supportive feedback loop when errors are caught."

We are so proud of our Warehouse team! This is quite an amazing achievement. One that comes from a focus on providing outstanding service.
