Definition: the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for, and to return, kindness.
As we head into shorter days of the winter season in the Northern hemisphere, it is a time to build our reserves for a season of contemplation, spend more time indoors (hopefully gathering around warm fires) and, if we follow the rhythms of nature, rest. We take stock of the work and energy of summer, gather up our harvests, storing all of this to keep our bodies fed and inner fires lit until spring emerges, renewed. Holding onto what light us up can get us through the most challenging times – even more so when we share it with others!
There is one particular quality we can carry with us to help shine through this new season, gratitude. When we live in gratitude, the world around us looks brighter, more is possible, others feel it too…you could say it’s contagious! What is really incredible is, research has shown, time and time again, when we intentionally focus on gratefulness, we become more joyful.
In this spirit, we offer gratitude for the people who make up our Hummingbird community. We are grateful for farmers, who tend the soil and grow the food that sustains us. We are grateful for our customers who support our mission to grow a healthier, more sustainable, regional food system through their food purchases. We are grateful for our non-profit partners, who work to foster community and increase food access, advocate for organic land practices, environmental and human health, and social justice. We are grateful for our coworkers, who are incredibly skilled, generous, motivated and inspiring team members. Thank you for all you do to make our world a better place to live in. We wish you a wonderful season, full of joy!
