"Some years ago, I wrote a book about cooking with local seasonal food in the damp and mossy northwest coast of the US. After writing Eating Close to Home: Local Seasonal Sustenance in the Pacific Northwest, it was suggested that a book on how to use the bounty of beans and grains that local farmers are now producing for us would be of help, both to those folks who want to bring their eating still closer to home, and to those farmers who want people to enjoy the fruits of their labor! Thus was born Beans, Grains, Nuts & Seeds: Further Adventures in Eating Close to Home. But cookbooks are such static beasts, and my cooking keeps evolving, and thoughts about gardening and the nurturing of life in general keep occurring. I thought this would be a nice place to set it all down."
