Description

Our Organic Streaker Barley is grown by Stephen Roth in Hampton, Oregon. The barley is tri-colored ranging from a beautiful blue to white.

This special barley variety is the first to be released by the Oregon State University Barley Project. It is resistant to stripe rust endemic to the Pacific Northwest. The name “Streaker” was chosen because it describes the naked (hull-less) characteristics of the variety. Being naturally hulless, the variety does not require dehulling after harvest as the hull comes off during harvest in the combine.

To cook this whole grain, combine one part Streaker Barley with three parts water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to a low simmer and cover with lid until barley is done. Check around 30 minutes. Drain any excess water (if necessary) then fluff with a fork to separate the grains. Enjoy our Organic Streaker Barley as a side dish, in a summer salad or soup.
